Friday April 13 at the Bank United Center at UM we had two of our warriors step into the cage at CFA 06. First off to start the night Josh Mercado stepped in to fight Jason Somchay. This fight was 3 years in the making as they were supposed to compete for an amateur muay thai title. Josh came out strong in round 1 landing the cleaner combinations. Josh eventually pushed Jason up against the cage then slammed him, got full mount and started raining blows until the Referee stepped in at 4:24 of the first round.

Next up from our team was Mike Trujillo against a very tough opponent Jerrid Burke. This was defiantly a stand up war in the making. First round was close with Jerrid landing some nice leg kicks and Mike landing some great punches including a solid hook that seemed to stun Jerrid. Round 2 Mike came out with a little more confidence putting combos together and eventually landed the jab and devastating right hand that sent Jerrid to the canvas at 4:20 or round 2.

Here are the quick results for CFA 06 event held in Miami, FL.

  • Josh Mercado defeats Jason Somchay by TKO (strikes) at 4:24 in the first round.
  • Javier Baez defeats John De Jesus via submission (armbar) at 2:56 in the third round.
  • Patrick Williams defeats Sebastian Angel by referee stoppage. Referee called the fight between the first and second round due to a broken jaw.
  • Trent McCown defeats Ryan Derocher via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:48 in the first round.
  •  Mike Trujillo defeats Jerrid Burke at 4:20 in the second round by KO.

There’s an old hip hop saying that goes like this, “It aint where your from, It’s where your at.” I believe those are the fine words spoken by a true hip hop legend by the name of “Rakim.”
I’d like to think when the phrase was mentioned he was referring to a pro MMA fighter by the name of Johnavan “The Immortal Warrior” Vistante.
From Oahu Hawaii to Miami Florida, the Immortal Warrior has conquered all obstacles in between and has left his mark on an elite group of fighters on local mma fight circuits across the country.
Johnavan has found a home at Evolution MMA here in Miami Florida training with Dan Monteleone, who is the owner, coach and head trainer here at this fine facility for elite fighters. He was welcomed with open arms and fit into the family just perfect. The Evolution MMA facility breeds champions and Johnavan came to the right place.
The training here at Evolution MMA is intense and brutal but very rewarding at the same time. Johnavan is putting in the much needed work. Why is that you ask?  Johnavan “The Immortal Warrior” Vistante will be representing Team Evolution on the next Ultimate Fighter Live Reality Show due to air March 9th on FX. The Islands of Hawaii are buzzing right now as well as the city of Miami. The Evolution MMA Champions are at it once again and there’s no stopping them.

January 26, 2012 at Club Play South Beach Jason Telus of Evolution MMA became the new ISKA – Fight Time Promotions – Lightweight Regional MMA Champion.  Jason won a unanimous decision over 5-1 Angel Corchado from American Top Team. Jason moved his perfect record to 4-0. Look for big things from Jason; he is going to make some noise in the 155 pound weight class.

DON’T MISS THIS SHOW!!!!!

In the Hip Hop world we hear the phrase, “More money more problems.” In the MMA world we say, “More wins, more opponents.” Evolution MMA pro fighters Mike “Dragonhulk” Trujillo and Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito showcased more than what anyone would consider spectacular performances. On Thursday November 10, 2011, both Mike and Anthony stepped in the cage for their second Pro MMA fight of their careers and left victorious. The event was Ultimate Alliance, which took place at the Dade County Auditorium here in Miami. Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito’s opponent was Efrain “Sexy Beast” Cintron who trains out of American Top Team.  Anthony finished off Efrain in the first round by submission choke to record his second win in as many fights. Next up was Mike “Dragonhulk” Trujillo who’s battle was a bit more tough. Mike’s opponent, Felix Penalver who trains out of American Top Team refused to give in and didn’t mind taking a beating for 3 rounds. The fight ended with Dragonhulk winning a unanimous decision to record his second win in as many fights. The Evolution Pro MMA undefeated reign continues and the future looks promising for these young and motivated fighters. Stay tuned for more to come…..

The month of October has been a very busy one for a couple of the Pro Fighters fighting out of Evolution MMA here in Miami FL. Pro MMA fighter’s and teamates Michael “Dragonhulk” Trujillo and Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito had to put their skills to the test for W-1 Reloaded at the Bank United Center in Miami Fl. The card was highlighted by Marcus Davis and Chuck O’Neil but Trujillo and Garavito sure put on a performance many are still talking about. Evolution MMA is on the rise and making their presence known once again.

Evolution MMA welterweight Michael Trujillo came out looking to impress, absolutely leveling Orlando native Eric Raposo with an overhand right and follow-up punches in just 57 seconds. Debuting welterweight Anthony Garavito thoroughly dominated Davaun McKoy in the grappling department, cutting through the American Top Team product’s guard and working his way into mount seemingly at will. The Miami native eventually forced the tap via keylock at 2:57 of the final frame.

Benefits of Martial Arts for Kids and Teens:

Many people among us can remember watching Martial Arts movies on TV in our childhood and wishing we could perform like our on screen heroes. It also happens many of us never got that chance as a kid. If you want to learn more about Martial Arts for kids then this article is for you. The benefits that Martial Arts can bring to your child can never be outspoken enough. Introducing youngsters to the amazing sport should be carried out properly to provoke and maintain a healthy interest that will enable them to have the mental and physical ability to improve everyday.
Whether you are a Martial Artist yourself or have no knowledge of the sport whatsoever, be assured that Martial Arts is one of the best experiences you can give your child. Not only will it dramatically increase the fitness levels of your child but also develop their mental concentration, giving them a clearer mind. Most notably Martial Arts teaches students how to avoid fights and conflict rather than look for it.
Why is Martial Arts good for kids?
This sport has a huge range on benefits, being both mental and physical. It can develop the mind of any Martial Artist, giving them the ability to be disciplined, focused and have a calm mind in stressful situations. Both mental and physical benefits go hand in hand and many experts are renowned for their positive outlook in life and dedication to achieving goals – not only in the sport but academically and also in general life. Physcial benefits of Martial Arts for your children could put them in a league above their peers, giving them an excellent cardiovascular system, flexibility and strength.
Develop the interest
We all know that a child rarely wants to follow the desires of a parent, for this reason it is advised to introduce the concept of Martial Arts in an implied manner. Suddenly telling your son or daughter that they should be going to a Martial Arts school is not recommended. Research has shown that by introducing a sport to a child slowly using the right techniques is much more effective. Try putting on a great Martial Arts movie for the kids, tailored at the younger generation, examples include The Karate Kid or Return of the Dragon. If your kid is bored and has no interest in either movie, it does not go to say Martial Arts is still not for them. By making Martial Arts fun, they are much more liekly to want to participate in the sport. For example, show how certain techniques can be used (obviously without hurting your child) and tell them they can rely on such techniques as they go through life if they ever encounter danger. Try taking them to a local Martial Arts competition and ask your child if they would enjoy doing something similar. Kids often want to be better than their peers at everything! Giving them the edge in Martial Arts could be a huge step for them. Nobody can ever question Bruce Lee’s dedication to Martial Arts, he was introduced to the sport by his father who was a Tai Chi Chuan practitioner.
Which Martial Art is best for a child?
This can only ever be answered in hindsight. However it must be noted that some Martial Arts are much harder to learn the older we get. Certain Martial Arts involve many moves which require a perfect technique to avoid injury should be started as young as possible. Some Martial Arts require extreme flexibility for certain kicks and are harder to develop the older we get. On the other hand, styles such as Mixed Martial Arts allow the child to choose from many styles under one roof giving them more choices and options. Most MMA moves can be learned regardless of phyical ablity. You should also consider what your child wants out of the sport, whether it be mainly for self defence, fitness or fun (thats not to say all three can be obtained in one style).
Find a Martial Arts School
Finding a good Martial Arts school is crucial and cannot be over emphasized..
The quality in teaching ranges enormously from school to school. Finding the right school depends on the attitude of the child and even yourself as a parent. Do you want your child to be an Champion or just find an enjoyable sport that will develop them mentally and physically and see where this takes them? Most importantly, your kid has to enjoy what he/she is doing and also learning in the correct way at the same time. With all that being said come by and give us a try, we have kids classes age 5-11 and teens classes 12 -17, adult classes alaso available. Its never too late to improve your life.
