Friday April 13 at the Bank United Center at UM we had two of our warriors step into the cage at CFA 06. First off to start the night Josh Mercado stepped in to fight Jason Somchay. This fight was 3 years in the making as they were supposed to compete for an amateur muay thai title. Josh came out strong in round 1 landing the cleaner combinations. Josh eventually pushed Jason up against the cage then slammed him, got full mount and started raining blows until the Referee stepped in at 4:24 of the first round.

Next up from our team was Mike Trujillo against a very tough opponent Jerrid Burke. This was defiantly a stand up war in the making. First round was close with Jerrid landing some nice leg kicks and Mike landing some great punches including a solid hook that seemed to stun Jerrid. Round 2 Mike came out with a little more confidence putting combos together and eventually landed the jab and devastating right hand that sent Jerrid to the canvas at 4:20 or round 2.

Here are the quick results for CFA 06 event held in Miami, FL.

  • Josh Mercado defeats Jason Somchay by TKO (strikes) at 4:24 in the first round.
  • Javier Baez defeats John De Jesus via submission (armbar) at 2:56 in the third round.

January 26, 2012 at Club Play South Beach Jason Telus of Evolution MMA became the new ISKA – Fight Time Promotions – Lightweight Regional MMA Champion.  Jason won a unanimous decision over 5-1 Angel Corchado from American Top Team. Jason moved his perfect record to 4-0. Look for big things from Jason; he is going to make some noise in the 155 pound weight class.

In the Hip Hop world we hear the phrase, “More money more problems.” In the MMA world we say, “More wins, more opponents.” Evolution MMA pro fighters Mike “Dragonhulk” Trujillo and Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito showcased more than what anyone would consider spectacular performances. On Thursday November 10, 2011, both Mike and Anthony stepped in the cage for their second Pro MMA fight of their careers and left victorious. The event was Ultimate Alliance, which took place at the Dade County Auditorium here in Miami. Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito’s opponent was Efrain “Sexy Beast” Cintron who trains out of American Top Team.  Anthony finished off Efrain in the first round by submission choke to record his second win in as many fights. Next up was Mike “Dragonhulk” Trujillo who’s battle was a bit more tough. Mike’s opponent, Felix Penalver who trains out of American Top Team refused to give in and didn’t mind taking a beating for 3 rounds. The fight ended with Dragonhulk winning a unanimous decision to record his second win in as many fights. The Evolution Pro MMA undefeated reign continues and the future looks promising for these young and motivated fighters. Stay tuned for more to come…..

The month of October has been a very busy one for a couple of the Pro Fighters fighting out of Evolution MMA here in Miami FL. Pro MMA fighter’s and teamates Michael “Dragonhulk” Trujillo and Anthony “No Quarter” Garavito had to put their skills to the test for W-1 Reloaded at the Bank United Center in Miami Fl. The card was highlighted by Marcus Davis and Chuck O’Neil but Trujillo and Garavito sure put on a performance many are still talking about. Evolution MMA is on the rise and making their presence known once again.

Evolution MMA welterweight Michael Trujillo came out looking to impress, absolutely leveling Orlando native Eric Raposo with an overhand right and follow-up punches in just 57 seconds. Debuting welterweight Anthony Garavito thoroughly dominated Davaun McKoy in the grappling department, cutting through the American Top Team product’s guard and working his way into mount seemingly at will. The Miami native eventually forced the tap via keylock at 2:57 of the final frame.

Congratulations to both guys, way to represent.

MFA fights at the FIU U.S. century bank arena were a huge success our very own Josh Mercado put on a display of his superior striking ability and picked his opponent Ryan Hayes apart. Ryan can into the fight undefeated with a professional 1-0 mixed martial arts record. Ryan tried to close the distance and use wrestling and jiu-jitsu to bring down Josh but he did a great job at defending the takedowns. Josh landed some sick leg kicks and some high flying head kicks, and almost finished the fight with a guillotine . Round 3 looked to be the same when Josh caught Ryan in a Darce choke to finish the fight by submission and bring his professional mixed martial arts record to a perfect 2-0. Look for big things from Josh Mercado this kid is extremely talented.

Just want to take the time to clarify some things about the sport I love. The sport you see on TV where two guys are fighting in a cage is called MMA this stands for Mixed Martial Arts, It’s a combination of a boxing, wrestling, muay thai kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, and judo. Back in the days when they first started MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) it was usually some one that was a master of 1 of these arts competing against some one that was a master of a different art. For example and the most common they would put a (striker) such as a master of muay thai against a (ground guy) such as a jiu-jitsu specialist. As the sport evolved these masters started to cross train and become experts in all these arts, this is sometimes considered to be the art of Freestyle fighting. In my opinion the most important and dominant arts that you need to be fluent in are boxing, wrestling and some jiu-jitsu. Hope this is clearing some things up for you. Now the UFC stands for the (Ultimate Fighting Championship) this is not the style of fighting this is a promotional company and a sanctioning organization it is considered to be the super bowl of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Hope I have cleared things up for you and oh ya  by the way Professional wrestling is fake, but that’s a whole other story.

2 of our fighters brought home championship belts that night in Deerfield Beach.
First of them to compete was Jason Telus vs the current champ and undefeated fighter Henrick Zabados fighting out of Palm Beach Boxing. Jason telus put on a display of superior striking through combinations and good movement. He clearly won every round but for some strange reason and to everyone’s surprise it was a split decision, either way he got the victory and striped the champ of his belt. Jason is now the current South Florida supper middle weight Muay Thai Champion. Look out for this guy he is going to go far in this sport.

Second of our fighters to step into the cage was Anthony Garavito vs Alberto Yaguares of (ATT) American Top Team. This was a big challenge for Anthony going into this fight since it looked like he was severely out matched, Alberto is a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Anthony is only a white belt. Anthony put on a clinic of superior striking and take down defense then got out of 2 very deep submissions. Anthony won by a once again surprising split decision to become the south Fl. welterweight MMA champion. The tattoo on his chest “NO QUARTER” says it all. This guy is a warrior.
